 DIVAfest Information

Mia Paschal (writer and performer of some life in DIVAfest 2005) is the founder and artistic director of Chaotic Heart Productions and Heroes Theatre Company, Mia moved to San Francisco six years ago from Milan, Italy (accompanied by her ferocious attack cat Twilight Tiger Lily). In Paris, Stockholm, Helsinki and Milan, she appeared in a number of independent films and video projects.

As an undergraduate at Harvard, Mia studied acting with David Wheeler; she later studied with Bill Hickey at the HB Studio in New York. In San Francisco, she studied with Ed Hooks and Bruce Williams, among others. She is represented by Tonry Talent.

Mia has performed in a number of plays and independent films in the Bay Area. She produced and performed in Heroes Theatre Company's "St. Valentine's Day Massacre", a collection of comedic and dramatic scenes about dysfunctional relationships. She produced, directed and acted in After the Fall by Arthur Miller (Maggie), Harold Pinter's The Lover, and Antony and Cleopatra (Cleopatra). Mia also acted in four productions of the Rough Theatre Company's Daytrippers, one-acts conceived, written, rehearsed and performed in 24 hours, one of which won Best of the San Francisco Fringe Festival 2001, as well as Best New SF Fringe Idea. In October 2002, one of her most personally gratifying theatrical experiences was performing in A Loud Little Handful, a site-specific production of works dealing with the aftermath of war and violence, directed by Emily Koch.

Mia wrote, produced, and directed the digital feature The Art of Etiolation which premiered at the Exit Theatre's DIVAfest in May 2004. In September 2004, she won the San Francisco Fringe Festival award for Best Female Solo Performance for her semi-autobiographical show some life, directed by Emily Koch. some life has been invited to be part of the EXIT Theatre's DIVAfest in April 2005.

She is currently writing two plays: "Tar Baby (stuck in the sticky stuff: race, sex, death, and love if you're lucky)"; and "Mother/Me", which explores the lives of three women whose blood and temperament run in her veins.
To support herself, Mia has kept the juke box going and sold pork rinds in a poolroom in Arkansas, attempted to look chic and knowledgeable as an art gallery assistant in the Place des Vosges, buried roaches in the whipped cream in an ice cream shop in Cambridge, Massachusetts, made quite a few German people laugh as a French-Italian-English translator/shoe model for a fashion showroom in Milan, and worked as an artist's model in San Francisco, among other things. (Speaking of changing angles.)
Mia dedicates some life to the memories of her brother, Martin, and Pierre Restany.
