5review = The one woman show was completely absorbing. The humor and pathos
perfectly speak to the purpose of theater. Nancy captured in wondrous ways
the struggles of a young woman trying to fit into "the narrow little
boxes" constructed by outsiders. Becoming a Kooky Lady was the perfect
response. Nancy's acting, her ability to move from one character to the
other and to capture in few words the essence and tone of character type,
were stunning. The Bay Area has a lot to look forward to from this unique
and talented young woman.

5review = Funny monologue, sunny, winning performance. A lot of witty and
intriguing observations on her life, original perspective on..is she crazy?..or
just kooky? Gets a slow start, but gets going and flys by - I was surprised
to see my watch say it had been a whole hour. Nice visual metaphor of layers
of clothing. A few other directorial choices were less effective. Talking
to the side not so effective even to establish one interaction, directly
to the audience is better. Maybe different lighting? The candy to the audience
- I've seen before, and...it encouraged the audience to make lots of plastic-paper
crinkly noise during the performance, and I thought I noticed strewn candy
getting in the performer's way once at the front of the stage. Overall,
an easily enjoyable hour.

I understand the whole human condition. Wonderfully honest, insightful,
and courageous in writing; funny, poignant and moving in performance. Really
opened a window to her soul.

Nancy Kelly presents us with the life of Nelly, a teenager visited by her
ancestral aunt. The aunt who lived out her life in a sanitarium now invites
Nelly to become a "Cukie Lady," a less pejorative name for a crazy
lady. This charming dialogue is Nelly's denial, then investigation and final
acceptance of her genetic inheritance. Kelly takes us with her along her
sexual path. She presents herself so sweetly that Nelly could have turned
out to be a serial killer and it would be o.k. with the audience, but there's
nothing that extreme. Family china is used as a metaphor for a life goal
which becomes a starting point to finding and loving the self.

5review = It takes a specific, rare talent to write material that is hilarious,
emotionally honest and moving--without being cheesy. Jane Wagner has it.
Lynda Barry has it. Whoopi--in her stand-up days--had it. Nancy Kelly has
it too, and her one-woman show, Crazy Lady, is an excellent showcase for
her talent. It's totally engaging, gross, true, revealing, and best of all,
pee-your-pants funny. It's a wacked-out coming of age story full of humor
and truth. The only drawback is that you'll want it to last another hour.
Highly recommended. Definitely check it out.
