5review = Having been spoon fed on Grimm's fairy tales and listening intently,
to the weekly radio show, "Let's Pretend", and then reading Robert
Bly's "Iron Man", and being delighted by Stephen Sondheim's "Into
the Woods", Tim Ereneta's ironic and in depth look into this Prince
Charming persona was a refreshing and highly entertaining revelation. Tim's
terse writing, his up-to-the-minute references to real world events, and
his understated performance with its masterful touches of irony, brought
tears, chuckles and belly laughs new meaning. This is a "don't miss
your final opportunity to see it" warning. You will not want to be
left out of the after show discussions which this witty piece of theater
is sure to generate. And, you'll come away feeling all warm and fuzzy!!

5review = Funny monologue, nice characterization. I love the concept that
just one man was the same Prince Charming in every fairy tale (and someone
else in a couple), and he reflects on his "career as a hero".
In fairy tale fashion, his great luck and his exciting and very long life
are a blessing as well as a curse. He's "done" Happy Endings,
and he's had enough of it. But he is never bitter, just bemused in his tale...he
is, after all, Prince "Charming." Tim Ereneta's writing is very
droll, and his deadpan delivery hits the right mark. Towards the middle,
he had some puns and other lines that didn't go over so well, but he rebounded
with Beauty and the Beast, and throughout I was happy to see him through
the hour (50 min). In the middle, there were some fairy tales he touches
on which I'm unfamiliar with, and those didn't resonate with me. But I loved
his tellings of Rapunzel and Cinderella. This is a kid-friendly show, and
it's an ironic, deadpan take on fairy tal!
es that might be a nice introduction to kids, or an update for them. I don't
know. What do I know from kids? Who do I think I am? NO ONE tells you how
to raise YOUR kids! But there's only one more show in the Fringe, Saturday
at 10pm, at the Phoenix II Theatre. Comfy seats, was a sell-out crowd for
Tuesday's show!

5review = A beautifully told story from the memoirs of Prince Charming.
Tim Ereneta is a master story teller. Funny and thoughtful, Happy Endings
Are Overrated delivers the goods and completes the stories that were only
half told with a happy ending. I wish you at least one happy ending too,
Tim. |
