L.A.'s Asian American sketch comedy troupe OPM (last year's "Best
of the Fringe") returns with an all-new show, featuring "robust
performances from an attractive ensemble" (LA Weekly) in sketches that
provide mass quantities of hilarity and food for thought.
EWAN CHUNG (Zhong Yuan-ping) - Producer
A native of the Commonwealth of Virginia, Ewan first performed and wrote
for OPM in 1997 in its original Seattle home. Then he moved to Los Angeles,
and luckily OPM followed in 2001. He has coached James Hong in French for
LâIdole, played ping pong in Showtime (movie), will be appearing in
Spike Lee's Sucker Free City on Showtime (cable), and has done voice-over
work of late (Cowboy Bebop). This is his second time at the Fringe, and
he hopes to have just as much fun. Special mention must go to Daniel. Oh
and by the way, Ewan is Chinese, not Korean...or Scottish.
TEDDY CHEN CULVER
Teddy loves performing almost as much as he loves his Mom and Costco. He
joined OPM in the pursuit of tighter abs, not because he's funny. So as
a consolation, Teddy offers this joke: "What do you call it when a
guy takes a girl home and forces her to eat pancakes?" "Date crepe."
Teddy did not write that joke. Teddy is proud to be working with a group
so "really really really, ridiculously good lookingly talented for
kids (like him) who can't laugh good."
CHARLES KIM - Producer
Charles Kim is a Los Angeles native and an actor, writer, and now a producer
who has been performing with OPM since 1998. He thanks God, family, friends,
and everyday living for inspiration and strength. If you'd like to holla
back, drop a line at email: chazzkim@hotmail.com
HEELI KIM-JENG
Heeli Kim-Jeng: Actress, Comedian, Dancer, Pimp, and CPR certified, Heelicious
hails from the Bronx and enjoys swimming. Although her friends simply know
her as "Heeli from the block," this OPM performer has successfully
transitioned her career from rapper to actress through much hard work. Audiences
and critics first took notice of Heelilicious in her breakthrough performance
in the Chinese rap film 8 Kilometer, which detailed the true trials and
tribulations of Queen Liu Tu Fa, an aspiring rap artist in the Wu Tang region
of Taiwan. When Heelicious is not actively pursuing her artistic aspirations,
she spends time with her husband at the house on top of the hill in Biloxi,
Mississippi where they, with their 4 grown children and 16 grandchildren,
enjoy listening to Rednex's Cotton Eye Joe, fly fishing and fermenting kim
chee.
MAI LEE
Born of legendary Hmong warriors from the mountain hill tribes of Thailand
and Laos, this modern-day urban Hmong princess was sent to represent her
clan sisters and brothers in the magical realm of Hollywood. She sacrifices
an ordinary, regimented income-earning life for the ultimate conquest of
appearing on all the covers of national tabloid magazines and of being voted
#1 on HotorNot.com. Meanwhile, she religiously practices her potent battle
skills by reading daily monologues to her houseplants.
RUSS RIGGINS
Russ Riggins is a graduate of the University of Virginia, and a grizzled
veteran of the DC Theater scene. He has performed at the National Theater,
the Smithsonian, Source Theater, Olney Theater Center, and other venues
in the DC metro area. Past shows include "Julius Caesar," "A
Few Good Men," "Matsu Kaze," and "Donut Holes in Orbit."
This is his third show with OPM, and he is thankful for the many opportunities
to perfect his comic genuis.
DIANA TOSHIKO
Diana Toshiko is back for her 2nd fringe festival in San Francisco. She
has been absent from all OPM shows this year because she was busy with her
quest to destroy the One Ring. After succeeding she had a brief stint at
Hogwarts before the dark side of the force tempted her back into OPM by
making her take the red pill. You can catch her advocating mutant rights
during the day and exploring the final frontier at night. And yes, she is
the biggest geek you will ever meet. I love me er I mean her.
