NAKED INQUISITION is a collaboration between a chessmaster and opera singer.
The chessmaster, Canada's Lawrence Day provided the script. He memorized
lines for the 1992 Toronto performance between rounds of the Manila chess
olympiad. The opera singer is producer-director Marvin Gordon. His dramatic
initiation was in Diane Geddoes' naked tribe in "Passion or Death"
(Toronto, 1987). The play's unifying theme is presented in ancient China:
Wen passes captive time with meditation, astral projection and compiling
the I Ching. His cyclical theory: the oppressed become oppressors. Flashing
forward a millenia we find a Roman pagan interrogating an early Christian;
then 1500 years later, a Christian interrogator vs pagan/scientist Giordano
Bruno. Post-renaissance secular humanist triumph leaves Venus-worshipping
Baron Masoch rejecting the 'pervert' label. The play leads to current enigmatic
times.
