Ever wondered what it feels like to be God? Now you can find out… Brian's journey to India unexpectedly leads him to theyyam - a possession ritual in which Untouchables become God and take control over their high-caste neighbors. Brian meets a woman. She teaches him to dance like a theyyam. Through dance, film and text, this play welcomes the audience into the mysterious world of the theyyam. And leaves them there. From the writer/director of last year's Fringe hit, "Beckett's Last Dance".

Jon Whittle is the Founder and Artistic Director of Dweeb Productions (http://www.dweebproductions.org), a San Francisco-based movement-based theater company founded in early 2002. Dweeb's debut production "Beckett's Last Dance", first performed in March 2002 at 848 Community Space, was a hit at last year's San Francisco Fringe Festival - "It is rare that a show can so captivate and disturb simultaneously. A must see." Dweeb's mission is to combine dance, movement and theater in exciting new ways.

Deepa Govind, one of the main protagonists in "Searching for God in Kerala", is a leading exponent of Kuchipudi dance, an exciting genre of dance that has its origin in a small village of that name in Andhra Pradesh, India. She went through strict Classical training in various styles of Classical Dances like Mohiniattam and Bharathnatyam and has been performing for 15 years. She has a Degree in Dance And Music. Deepa also has a Masters in English Literature and holds a Graphic Design Masters from Toronto.

"Searching for God in Kerala" was conceived during a month long trip to India in December 2002. It revolves around the mysterious theyyam possession ritual - a performance that takes place annually in obscure villages in Northern Kerala, a state in southwest India. During the performance, the performer, who is always an Untouchable, becomes God and blesses the high-caste Brahmans. Hence, the ritual represents a complete reversal of the intricate caste system of India in which Untouchables finally take power over their Brahman neighbors.
