A shame that a play like this is accepted on the fringe; the space was full of family and friends; we didn't know anybody and we didn't laugh AT ALL; the roles were only filled in from the outside; very cliche;
an Italian who should have seen this, should be very ashamed, I think.

This was funny for about the first half hour, but the joke wore thin. Also, some of the performers' voices were too loud for indoor use. Still, the juxtaposition of what appears to be traditional Italian comedy style with modern concerns and conveniences was good for quite a few laughs.

Well written and well acted, great humor and costumes! I was rolling with laughter the whole time. It was a wonderful combination of traditional commedia and modern day issues.

I was thoroughly entertained BOTH times I saw this energetic and rhythmic performance. The original song blew me away. The costumes are colorful and fun. The actors are committed to their characters and are extremely charming. This is a very clever script. Now stop reading this review and make plans to see one of the final two shows!

What a romp! A blend of Peking Opera and Italian commedia. A stunning success! I've never laughed quite so hard in my life as when Chris poops the coffee beans into the pie plate! Wow! A splendid cast - some wonderful musical moments and fabulous costumes! Go see go see!

A fantastically tight commedia piece, modern, original and witty. Its quite obvious these performers have worked together before. Some brilliant sight gags and one liners. The performances where well rehearsed and brilliantly delivered. As with many Fringe shows, this brings along some interesting choices in stylization. This is not your great uncle Guido's commedia.

Commedia dell’arte, in its more classical format as a sort of early improv, has been around for hundreds of years. The modern manifestation tends towards giddiness in its attempt to make you wiggle in your seat. “Caffe” brings together FuManchu, a drag Madonna and Elvis in a coffee house competition with StarScuddi (get it?). Before the 20th Century, much of the world’s theater used the commedia formula: strong obvious characterizations, simple plot constructions. Well performed. A pleasant trip.

this fun and imaginative hybrid exploration of commedia dell' arte meets peking opera feeds both the eye and ear. quality writing, inventive costuming, live music, singing et al. makes this 50 minute production well worth the ticket. you can bet on elvis being in the building.

Delightfully entertaining, a must see! From the music, to the humor, the costuming and the props...obvious preperation that results in a hilareous play!

Great fun! I had a blast. I am a big Commedia fan so I was sold right away, but this show has some really solid universal silliness that would even make a non-theater geek piss themselves. The script was really original, and packed with grade A gags. They incorporated some neat little twists on the traditional Commedia format (like Elvis, and the macado). At first I did know what to make of them (the mix of styles), but as the play when on it really turned out to be a refreshing twist. It also made for some very entertaining visuals.
I thought the whole cast really shined. It is a great group, and I would be hard pressed to find a weak link any ware. A few performances really stand out.
Andy was at his best. I have seen him in other shows, and he is always great, but he really nailed the momma’s boy “lover” Leonardo.
His counter part, Laura was marvelous! She not only looked stunning as Isabella, but lent her fabulous voice to the shows very entertaining songs. I thought she also showed some great depth of character that was unexpected in such a screwball comedy. It really added a lot.
Chris is the C in consistency. Every time I see him on stage he is nails, great comic timing, wonderful musicianship, and he looked great as Brighella/Elvis. I can’t believe that was his real hair. See the show; you will know what I mean.
His counter part, the bumbling Pulcinella, played perfectly by Chris Callahan, was another real stand out. I have just recently start seeing him do more stage acting, and let me tell you I have become a really big fan! Chris C is a remarkable physical comedian, and has a lot of stage charisma. A joy to watch.
Brain was born to play Patalone. He knows his stuff. Brain is a true student of Commedia, and it shows not only in his performance as the miserly old Patalone, but also in his direction of this piece. Well done man.
Last but defiantly not least, Lori who wrote the show, and played the part of Cantalopi needs another ovation. I know how tough it is to write a comedy show, and one this good has got to be REALY tough. Lori did a great job, it was fresh, fun, and something I would like to see Famiglia Formaggio build on. Bringing top notch Commedia to the masses.
Keep it up guys; see you at next years fringe
