Wonderfully acted drama about two gay friends living in San Francisco. It
was poignant, brutally honest and yet very funny at times, it truly mirrored
real life, without the Hollywood ending!

This is a funny and sad play about hopes and (im)maturity and the impact
these have on the relationship between two best friends, a gay man and a
lesbian. The acting is excellent, as is the script, which takes us on a
journey that shows how simultaneously strong and fragile a close friendship
can be. This was the best play I saw (out of 10 plays seen) at the Fringe,
and I hope it gets another production, because it really is that good.
Note: There is brief nudity, which is not mentioned in the Fringe alerts
for this show.

There should be a catagory of "Beyond the Fringe" , shows that
are so polished and well done that they will/should have a life after the
Fringe is over. This is a smartly written , superbly acted show that could
easily have a life at someplace like The Magic Theatre in it's next incarnation.
One of the real high points of this years Fringe. Go see it now so you can
say you saw it when it was just at a tiny gallery in the Mission. Not to
be missed.

Far From Springer is a brilliantly written piece by playwright, Craig Fox.
It is a very emotional story about two queer people choosing to have a baby
together. What seems like a good idea in the beginning becomes a very painful
outcome. These two people struggle with their views on how to deal with
the reality of wanting and needing two different things in what's to come.
The two actors, Oscar and Wendy, do an outstanding job nailing the heart-wrenching
piece, and in the end, just trying to figure out how to survive it all.
Congratulations to all. Well done!

I have seen this play two times now and I enjoyed each perfomance better
than the last. I found this play an interesting juxtaposition between tragedy
and comedy. It deals with how two friends deal with the loss of a child
that was conceived through artificial insemenation and dies at childbirth.
Although that might be considered offputing, the acting performances by
both of the leads were superb. They presented the well written lines with
both excellent comic timing and thought provoking pathos. Very clever pop
culture references and real life alternative lifestyle condundrums meshing
together keep this play from being either too sad or too trivial.
The evening at this play was time well spent realizing that there are
many gray areas between actions, thoughts and deeds. It does remind us that
we are all indeed just a situation away from a Jerry Springer episode.

Some shows move up from the Fringe to the big time (think "Urinetown").
For Hauser Honey Productions'"Far From Springer," the move from
a living room - where it was a mild uderground sensation last year - to
the Gallery Spanganga is the big time. Comic and oddly touching, it is the
most intriguing show I've seen at the San Francisco Fringe Festival this
year.
Written and directed by Craig Fox, "Springer" is a look at an
ordinary expectant non-couple - a lesbian and a gay friend who impregnated
her - who turn out to have more than they'd think in common with the folks
they ridicule on Springer and "Survivor." It meanders too much
in the first act, but Fox's clever script and the low key performances of
Wendy Taylor and Oscar Davila pay comic and compelling dividends after intermission.
It turns out to be as diverting as disturbing in demonstrating that "We're
all only a circumstance away from a Jerry Springer episode."

I really like Oscar the male actor in this particular production. His performance
really hit home for me...you see I am somewhat of a stray cat in life and
so is Stan (Oscar's Character).
Highly recommended evening of entertainment.

This is my first Fringe Festival Play, but after seeing this I would like
to attend more perfomances of this caliper. The play is very enlightening
and entertaining and not too long. I am speechless at this point.

If you can only see one of the performances at the Fringe Festival...then
see this one!!!
The first act and character study take a while in the first act...but damn
does the second act deliver. Loved it and want to go back and see it again.
Did you say there are other plays in the festival as well?

I actually did not go and see this play as I am a cat. But when my owner
came home after the play he rubbed my tummy and played ball with me for
hours. This is most unusual for him. Thanks Fringe Festival for reconnecting
us. Therapy just wasn;t enought.
