Great. LunFan carefully builds up a battery of lovable TP characters using
cartoonish vignettes, always commited to moments of childhood playfullness,
and then steadily moves through a ritual of desecration, ripping their cute
little creation apart in a universalized story of enmity and culture-wars.
Their last show, which also used only sparse sound and played childhood
innocence off of militarized destruction and separation, ran about an hour
fifteen. This allowed for a greater personalization of characters, but ultimately
a more confused piece. The minimalism and simplicity of Fixed Boundary seems,
to me, to be a real boon, at least when tackling issues as dark and broad
as these. Without losing a empathy for the "actors", character
detail is abandoned, meaning we do not get caught up in any specific representations
of any one real-world conflict, and instead simply watch the essential moments
of these horrible conflicts play out with dark innevitabilty.
But of course this shadowy side is continually balanced by hilarious
transformative puppetry and a continual drive to find creative uses for
the ordinary. Ultimately, this balance makes the ending all the stronger.

Leave it to Lunatique Fantastique to come up with a charming show about
conflict in the Middle East. The charm makes the show endearing and very
watchable, and genuinely funny and sad. However, there isn't much freshness
in their material, which is essentially a dumbshow involving the movement
of a yardstick back and forth to define territory occupied by one character
or another. Definitely see this one for its charm and innovative use of
toilet paper, but don't expect to learn anything from it.

I've never seen anything like this. It was inventive, exciting, and revealing
story telling. The only quibble I have is that the character sounds and
noises could be a bit louder but thats just a quibble, not a tech note.

Liebe Wetzel has done it again, and this time with toilet paper!
It is absolutely amazing that with nothing more than a few rolls of toilet
paper a plunger and some rulers that someone is able to tell a story about
conflict and boundaries. You should definately see this show!!!

Lunatique Fantastique is an amazingly innovative puppetry troupe. Using
only rolls of toilet paper, they created a dramatic, funny, and deeply moving
narrative. This show was pure magic! Be sure to sit in the center section
for the best vantage point.

Liebe Wetzel does extraordinary work. This is absolutely must see creativity.
Check her website at www.lunfan.com for more information. A "puppet"
show on the dilemas in the middle east with characters composed of toilet
paper rolls , a plunger and measuring sticks with no dialog and absolute
magic resulting. This sells out as she has a major following in the Bay
Area so advise calling the Marsh[on Valencia in the Mission]at 826-5750
for reservations and arrive EARLY so you can get a seat in the front middle
section.
