This is the talk show from hell, where everything goes wrong and the cast members have to make up for it. I could see where the other reviewers might have found it painful, but I was one of the ones who was having a blast. If you like silly stuff, this is it, go see it.

Of the 4 Fringe shows I saw, the Late Nite Talk Show was my favorite. The actors had great physical life and incredible energy. There was a good deal of interaction with the audience (as befits a talk show), and it definitely worked in this show's favor. An excellent performance.

Excerpt from Contra Costa Times, 9/8/03:

... On the other side of the theatrical spectrum, perhaps even an alternative universe where Jewish princesses grow up to be talk-show queens, you meet Dollya Hoffman-Kaufman-Stein-steinberg (Dalia Vidor, athor of the show with David Robertson), who begins her show, scantily clad, in the lobby of the theater. There you get used to this tiny fireball of annoyance who has parlayed chutzpah on steoids into "The Late Night Talk Show."
Her silent sidekick (Julie Ann Ferrazani) thinks she's a cat; her makeup girl (Zuzka sabata) believe herself to be a boy-toy, and her cue card boy (Jared Asato) is essentially a toy-boy.

A fun set of characters in this talk show spoof. There are some interesting moments, but just as many where you are like "what are they thinking?". Many of the jokes fall flat. Interesting use of tv set on stage and nice sister wendy imitation, but overall the show lacks precision, timing and originality. The rest of the audience seemed evenly split between those who were thoroughly enjoying themselves and those who looked like they wanted to escape.

I had hopes for this and while I laughed during some bits, I chuckled more often, and left somewhat disappointed. I almost gave this 3 stars but couldn't. A few humorous pearls, but I felt, "this has been done elsewhere". It evokes memories of "Fernwood Tonight" less the conversation, combined with "Saturday Night Live's Coffee Clatch", but without the sparks of these two.

Clever use of multi-media. You have to watch everything that's taking place on the stage, as multiple bits are always taking place. Some of the audience laughed loudly throughout, so this is one that you may want to ask your friends about, if they go to an earlier production.
