Five stars?? This show deserves at least eleven!! Patrick?s ability to
relate his experience on such an intimate level and with such energy and
enthusiasm is truly a natural talent not to be missed! I had so much fun
the first time I went back for seconds and the show was just as entertaining.
A great story, an exceptional storyteller and an hour of fun and laughs.
A definite MUST SEE!!

I had such a great time at Patrick's show. He is truly the best storyteller,
and his ability to engage the audience is wonderful. The story is incredible,
and Patrick brings the audience along remembering his fantasic highs, along
with his most private agonizing moments. Wonderfully funny, I clapped in
triumph with the audience for the guy who stuck to his guns and got a bank
to say "I'm sorry."

A great story, told very compellingly. The show is one part humor, one part
classic storytelling, and one part chat with a personable guy. Toss in a
little stick-it-to-the-man, and you've got yourself a Fringe delight!

Wonderful story told in an entertaining and suspenseful way by a born story-teller.
Another best-of fringe show.

Great story, but it takes a while to get going. I guess this show had to
be cut down to fit Fringe constraints - too bad the cuts were taken from
the end more than the beginning. The problem is I knew the premise going
in, so the first 20 minutes felt like slow rehash of the check deposit story.
When it gets great is when the check clears and the fallout begins. This
is the meat of the show and where all focus should go.

Yes he's talking directly to you. Yes it's an interesting story, a case
of fact being crazier than fiction. And yes he seems enthusiastic about
telling it. But it just didn't work for me. I was not riveted by the performance
as the other reviews here were. I actually did find myself looking at my
watch several times during the show. Patrick repeats himself quite a bit
(this is often done on tv, but that's due to the short attention span of
the audience). That, combined with the generally slow pace of performance,
left me somewhat restless. I kept waiting to hear what happened, only to
hear either repetition or some humor that wasn't all that original.
I also didn't find the story as profound as the other reviewers. It just
wasn't a revelation to me that businesses such as banks will act in their
own interests.

A wonderful surprise! It was like watching someone recount a story for the
first time. Felt like he was speaking just to me. Full of enthusiasm and
sincerity. Such a pleasure to watch. Combs has the rare ability to tell
a story. Kept me enthralled and laughing for an hour. Don't miss this one.

Patrick Combs was sensational!! I remember this story from the papers and
talk shows, and couldn't believe it was the same guy. And the way that he
weaves the whole thing together made me feel like I was living the experience
myself. His comic timing is impeccable and his energy is contagious. I highly
reccommend the show and believe they will sell out fast.

Patrick Combs has the ability to make really fine acting not look like acting
at all. He seems to be telling us(just us) this really interesting story
about something that he almost can't believe happened to him. And he makes
it seem as if he's remembering the details as he goes along. And we laugh, and
we are in suspence, and we are moved, and most of all we are thinking "what
next?,what happens next?" Great show!

Funny! Funny! Funny! I was laughing so much. What a great story told by
a fantastic storyteller. My friend dragged me to this show and I am so glad
I went.
It's a true-life story that makes you think.

An awe-inspiring feat of non-fiction storytelling. Combs takes you on a
hilarious, thought-provoking journey with him that reveals insight into
the individual's role in a world of faceless corporations. His daring and
tenacity to probe the depths of his accidental windfall are a lesson to
us all in how to look at the world we take for granted all around us. A+++

This delightful true-life "David & Goliath" story is charmingly
presented by the man who lived this truth-is-stranger-than-fiction tale,
Patrick Combs. The evening is unscripted, impromptu and very engaging. A
few technical glitches on the performance I saw. However, I highly recommend
seeing this.

What would I do? Is the question I kept asking myself. What makes this show
so fantastic is the fact that it's true story. Comb's does a brilliant job
re-counting his experience in cashing a $95,000 junk mail check.
Riveting and entertaining. I would highly recommend this show.

Mesmirizing production of a guy who receives a "non-negotiable"
phony check for just over $93k in his mailbox. One of those, "you too,
can be a millionaire" type promotions that people way too many of in
email today. Combs puts a happy face on the back of the check, and deposits
it in his ATM. It clears, and the adventure ensues!
Hilarious recounting of the subsequent events following the deposit into
Comb's checking account as Comb's recounts his inner turmoils about, "what
do I do?" and his subsequent search for respect and resolution from
the faceless powers that be at First Interstate Bank. What makes this production
work is the fact that it's all tr

I wasn't sure if a third show in a row would be Fringe overload - but I'm
so glad I stayed for Patrick Combs' one man show. He was so real & fresh
- it was as if he were telling the story for the first time. He conveyed
not only humor in his recounting, but palpable excitement, stress, anger,
incredulity. He was terrific (except for the slight distraction of his incessant
nose wiping). See it!

Obviously there are lots of vicarious thrills and dry absurdities in this
true story, in which trickster Patrick Combs jokingly deposits a junk-mail
promotional check and then finds that it has cleared. There is also more
suspense than I expected. You wonder what *you* would do in such a situation,
and at the same time the story is progressing and the tension mounting.
The best part is in the telling. Combs is wry, expressive, and well-paced,
so that I was fully engaged throughout the performance, as those around
me seemed to be, too. And I doubt any of us will ever look at those junk-mail
promotional checks the same again

Patrick Combs is a great story-teller in the tradition of the extraordinary
syndicated radio personality from the 60s, Gene Shepard. How do I know Patricks
great? When the hour flies by as he spins his yarn about one event, and
you never once look at your watch. When you can feel your eyes widening
every time a nuance of the story is introduced. When you feel youre
not in a theater at all, but sitting across a kitchen table from him, as
he tells you about this thing that just happened to him. When you feel hes
talking just to you. And who couldnt be fascinated with a story about
depositing one of those bogus checks from a publishing house and
it clearing! Story-telling is one of the worlds oldest crafts, yet
so few know how to master it. Patrick knows.
