Although the Fringe is over, I have to give this show its due. I'd never
seen Wayne Harris before, and came away thinking "that man has heart!".
He's a consummate performer, riveting, and the show was beautifully rendered.
Although I usually tend to favor the absurdist/experimental stuff offered
up by the Fringe Fest, it was refreshing to see something so real (although
made up), so "down home", so grounded in human experience and
particularly that of African-Americans in the south. He was able to bring
such humanity and complexity to each of his 3 characters. Anyone who can
transform an initially unsympathetic character (the pimp) into a person
of grace/understanding/compassion by the end of the show has my vote. But
I've given too much away...

a very good player in a very clear and good provided scene, but half an
hour too long;
there were many so called "dead moments" in the piece;the player
had to dry his face, to
change clothes or to drink; at that moments everything stopped on stage;
my imagination
as watcher was disturbed; but the player was so strong that he pulled me
again in his story; he succeeded in this, except for the last half hour;
a pity!
to the director: make choices and let the player wipe his face while playing
his role!

Note: neither I nor any of the 5 friends I attended this play with know
anyone connected with this production.
We all thought the acting, writing, and production were tremendous and we
enjoyed it thoroughly. It is a powerfully told story of African-American
experience in the not-too-distant past, but the characters and themes are
still very relevant today. It is steeped with both realism and mythology
and is a very American Play. Wayne Harris' acting is as good as it gets,
in my opinion.

This man is a professional, which is always nice to see. Each character
is well realized and engaging. I was pleased to hear them speak.
The night I attended was a struggle. Someone walked out in a huff as
he was playing the "Pimp" midway thru the play. And folks kept
shifting in their seats near the end (noisy chairs), but I enjoyed the performance.
Perhaps the story falters at the end, or maybe it was just the momentum
of the night which I attended.

Wayne Harris and collaborator-extraordinaire (did I spell that right?) David
"Dawg" Ford have crafted a gripping historical character-driven
drama. Harris portrays three characters with nuance and power. The story
surges with alternating currents of spine-tingling fear and cosmic dark
humor. And the usual Fordian intelligence lurks behind every sharp turn
of phrase. Don't miss this masterwork-in-the-making.
