THE 2005 SAN FRANCISCO FRINGE FESTIVAL

APPLICATION INFORMATION

Please note that 2005 application procedures and deadlines have changed and you are directed to read through all of the following information in order to avoid disappointment.

NEW THIS YEAR !!!

  • For 2005 ALL Applications to the San Francisco Fringe Festival must be submitted online
  • For 2005 ALL Standard Venue performers -- local, national, and international -- will be selected by lottery AS OF MIDNIGHT JANUARY 11 STANDARD VENUE APPLICATIONS ARE NO LONGER BEING ACCEPTED.

All applicants to the SF Fringe Festival must pay a $25 Application Fee. This will be charged to your credit card when you apply. If you are selected to perform in the 2005 San Francisco Fringe Festival then there is a Performance Fee of $475 for Standard Venue Performers and $350 for Bring Your Own Venue (BYOV) performers. This will be charged to your credit card only if you are selected to perform in the festival.

The San Francisco Fringe Festival is the longest running Fringe Festival in the US. In 2004 the Festival hosted 44 performing companies who presented more than 250 performances on 12 stages throughout the city. All ticket revenues, except for surcharges on advanced tickets and frequent fringer passes, go to the performers.

The SF Fringe Festival is part of a global network of Fringes that includes over 18 in the US and Canada. Most operate on the same basic principles adapted from the original Edinburgh Fringe Festival founded over 50 years ago. The main principles were to provide all artists, emerging and established, with the opportunity to produce their work no matter the content, form or style, and to make the event as affordable and accessible as possible for the members of the community, empowering audiences with the ability to decide for themselves the truly great productions from the good, the bad and the gloriously disastrous.

In keeping with these principals the San Francisco Fringe is an open, non-juried, uncensored festival. As an applicant you are given the choice of two different Festival categories within which to participate, Standard Venue Application and BYOV Application, each with a separate application process.

Any individual or company is eligible to apply to either category but only ONE application can be submitted per individual/company. If a company is not accepted in to the Standard Venue category at the Lottery on January 26th they may apply as a BYOV performer by the February 23rd deadline. The SF Fringe is designed to provide performance opportunities to the greatest number of artists possible, therefore duplicate applications by artists in any form is discouraged. If an individual/company has been found submitting more than one application, ALL applications submitted by that individual/company will be removed from the application process. The primary and secondary contacts of a company cannot be the contacts for a second company applying to The Festival. Companies in the Festival may not sell or transfer their spot to another company. If we find that a company has sold or transferred their place to a second company, both companies will be removed from The Festival and will forfeit their application fees.

SHOWS

(BYOV)

Tell me more about Bring Your Own Venue Applications

Some Fringe performers prefer to set up their own performance spaces. This may be because their show is a site specific piece or requires a specialized performance venue or because they must adhere to a particular performance schedule which doesn't lend itself well to the limitations of a Standard Venue. These 'Bring Your Own Venue' (BYOV) performers are treated the same as regular indoor performers except that they must acquire and set up their own venue independently and are responsible for the costs associated with these venues and their technical needs. As a result 'Bring Your Own Venue' performers are permitted additional input into their schedules including scheduling up to 10 performances during the festival and presenting a show over the 60 minute Standard Venue limit.

IMPORTANT DATES for Bring Your Own Venue Applicants

  • BYOV Applications will be accepted until February 23rd 2005 at 12:00AM Pacific Time (Midnight)
  • Last day for BYOVs to withdraw and receive 50% refund of Application fee. May 11th, 2005
  • 14th Annual SF Fringe Festival September 7-18, 2005
