Unlike the similarly named reviewer below, I felt that Susan's experiences
with insomnia closely matched my own. I've struggled with sleep my whole
life and many of her observations rung true. The portions of her show focused
on sleep - or the lack thereof - I therefore found the most appealing.
Susan does not have the professional varnish some of the other performers
have; her performance feels like ramblings from her journal rather than
a coherent storyline. However, she has enough charm to pull it off and
keep it engaging. The "movement" portion of the show did not
work so well, however; she does not seem like a trained dancer and the symbolism
was to obvious. I feel the show would be stronger if she stuck to storytelling.
All in all, an interesting show from a young performer with plenty of charisma
and potential.

Susan Redman wrote this piece because the thought of doing a one woman show
terrified her, this in itself inspired her and it has inspired me.
The piece is honest and original, touching in parts and funny in others.
There is no character here, Susan is telling her own story. It leaves you
wanting to know more and you leave certainly admiring her. The piece shows
I think, that she has great potential as a writer/performer which can only
develop through age and experience. I hope she sticks it out as an actor
and is successful.

This is a very nice , very genuine actor doing a very nice job of the travials
of insomnia. The show moves along nicely. The show was pleasantly enjoyable
and rather nice. And that's also the problem , too. Somehow the traumas
of buying one's first mattress and having to call mom to get support, and
getting your car booted in the big city, and not being able to parallel
park because you lived all your life in the suburbs aren't exactly the conflicts
that usually drive one to insomia or provide the kind of struggles and drama
that make shows captivating. I am sincere though in saying that this was
an enjoyable show , it just doesn't stay with you for very long after you've
left.

Definitely a winner. Made me take a hard look at my own life and my own
fears. Definitely gave you a sympathetic look at the life of an insomniac
as well.

One person shows are hard to do. I suffer from insomnia too, but didn't
relate to the piece at all. I guess I have bigger problems that keep me
up at night, this girl can't sleep because she can't paralel park her car
in a new city. I don't get it. Also, don't see this show from the back row
because the bed is on the floor near the front of the audience, and you
can't see a thing.

Here to There is a true epic journey detailing the struggle of transition
and the heartache of change. Never before has one show enraptured a feeling,
a place in life that every living soul has been. An absolute must-see.

Susan's piece truly speaks to everyone who has ever felt lost during a period
of transition, and is a wonderfully written and performed work that is relatable
to anyone. I first saw it as I was on the brink of graduating from college
and beginning my life as an adult, and the ideas within inevitably assisted
me as I applied them to my own situation. I highly recommend this show not
only to those seeking to relate to a situation, but to everyone who needs
a laugh, wants to route for a good cause, or who loves theatre. It's an
excellent piece filled with emotion, depth, and original ideas. Enjoy! |
