VENUE INFORMATION SHEET
EXIT Theatre
156 Eddy Street, San Francisco
Located on the North side of Eddy between Taylor & Mason, a block from the Powell St. BART Station, this 80 seat proscenium/cabaret style house is the main space of the Eddy St. Theatreplex that houses EXIT Stage Left and EXIT Café as well. The house is at street level and, thus, is wheel-chair accessible.
The Space
See attached Spec Sheet and Ground Plan to check dimension specifics. With
traditional use of the curtains, playing space is approximately 16' wide
by 10' deep with 2 entrances on each side and ample wing space. On travelers,
the curtains can be manipulated to widely vary these dimensions, to change
# of entrances and expose Up Stage (US) brick wall for effect. The stage
is raised 14" from the first row of audience seating (please note that
the first few rows of audience are modular and that it is possible that
you may have audience right up to the edge of the stage). If you plan to
use any of the house as playing space, you should alert us to that ASAP.
Entrances directly to stage from the dressing room can be made Stage Right (SR) or through the back of the house. One can also enter from House Left (HL) down the stairway from the tech booth (though there is no concealed cross from dressing room to booth). Be aware that wing space Stage Left (SL) is at house level rather than stage level as there is a 5 ft. passage between the stage and the House Right (HR) wall. This passage provides access to a door SL that leads outside to an uncovered Back Porch area. The back curtain provides a 2' passage for on-stage crosses, however this Porch can be part of an alternate concealed cross to enter SL. By exiting the dressing room through the back of house Vestibule, the Back Porch can be accessed through the common hallway (reverse for a cross L to R). Keeping in mind factors such as noise and unpredictability of weather, it is an option to consider. Note that this path is normally used as part of the load-in process.
There is no flyspace, though lightweight items (no more than 25 lbs.) may be dead hung from the light grid above the stage. While the floor is wood, the back and HR walls are brick, so ability to attach or project items is limited - though possible. Contact me ASAP to determine feasibility of any hangs or attachments to floor or wall if you wish to explore these options. You may not hang items or compromise the stage in any way without prior approval.
Dressing Room/Storage
Dressing room Holds 5-6 comfortably and is located behind the audience,
beneath the tech booth and down a concealed, lit passageway from SR. The
room itself is fairly simple, providing ample mirror and counter space but
no additional amenities. There are no private restrooms or sinks backstage,
so performers share washroom facilities with patrons and EXIT Stage Lefters.
There is no monitor system, but stage noise can be heard in the dressing
room. The reverse is LESS true but should be considered by performers spending
any time backstage.
Storage NONE. Well, that was simple, eh? You need to be able to fully strike
all items from the theatre after your performance. If this is an issue for
you, please contact me ASAP.
Tech Capacities
Located above and behind the audience, the booth has an unobstructed, "crows-nest"
view of the full playing space. It is open and equipped with an audio monitor
(for stage noise) that can be utilized. Windows can be opened for ventilation
(a fan is provided) or effect, but this obviously makes sound more of an
issue. The only access to the booth is through and clearly visible to the
audience (though the indicated stairway allows for partial concealment).
Sound/Projection: (1) tape deck, (1) 2 CD player and an 8 channel Fostex
mixing board allowing for cross fades, live mic hook-up or instrument amplification.
If you'd like to set up additional sound equipment, the system has flexibility
and you are welcome to do so, but you may be asked to leave it for the duration
of the festival to prevent installation mistakes. Again, please contact
me well before your tech to deal with feasibility issues. There are 2 speakers
dead-hung from the lighting grid at the back of the stage that allow isolation
left and right through the mixer.
The Fringe provides no projection equipment, but can accommodate items that
you bring in. While EXIT Theatre does not have any standard or "prime"
locations (i.e. shelves, dead hung platforms, etc.) for this, projection
has been successfully achieved in the past. Clearly, informing me of anything
on this front ASAP allows us to work together to determine some options.
Lights: You will be provided a 12 channel rep plot as follows: [1] lavender
back wash (3 Fresnels), [5] area lights (Fresnels focused DR, UR, DC, DL,
UL), [1] red wash (2 Lekos), [1] blue wash (2 Lekos), and a choice of [4
] of 6 specials (L, C, R, Floor Mount, Side L, Side R). The focus and gelling
of these instruments will be shown first thing at your tech rehearsal and
will not be available for modification. If you are considering bringing
in ANY additional lighting equipment, what do you think? Yes, that's right!
- please contact me ASAP and we'll discuss feasibility.
The board is a Leprecon MANUAL 2 scene preset. Cues may be cross-faded manually
or run as internals. There is an independent channel, add/bump buttons and
a chaser. The house lights are on a separate dimmer next to the board.
Anything not covered here can be handled with a call or e-mail to me at your earliest convenience. Keep in mind that the sooner you contact me, the more likely we'll be able to work together to accommodate your needs.
