VENUE INFORMATION SHEET
EXIT on TAYLOR
277 Taylor Street, San Francisco
Located on the West side of Taylor between Eddy & Ellis, 2 blocks from
the Powell St. BART Station, this 60 seat, black box space is around the
corner from the Eddy St. theatreplex that serves as Fringe Central. The
house is street level and, thus, is wheel-chair accessible.
The Space
See attached Spec Sheet and Ground Plan to check dimension specifics. With
traditional use of the curtains, playing space is approximately 20' wide
by 15' deep. The house is positioned on two sides of the stage, with about
20 seats on the north side of the theatre and about 40 seats on the west
side of the theatre.
On travelers, the curtains can be manipulated to change the dimensions of
the space. The east wall is a bare black wall with 2 "alcoves"
(represented on the ground plan) that can be revealed by moving the curtains
back and forth on the travelers. The main door into the space can also
be revealed giving the width of the space an additional 4 feet. (The sight
lines for this additional four feet are not the best)
Entrances directly to stage can be made by the south and north corners of the east wall. "Hidden crosses" can be made most easily by using this back hall (connecting the two previously mentioned entrances.
There is no fly-space, though lightweight items (no more than 25 lbs.) may be dead hung from the light grid above the stage. While the floor is wood, all walls are sheet rock so attachments are limited. Contact me ASAP to determine feasibility of any hangs or attachments to floor or wall if you wish to explore these options. You may not hang items or compromise the stage in any way without prior approval.
Dressing Room and Storage
Dressing Room Holds 5-6 comfortably and is located off the north east corner.
This room is at the end of a common hallway, past the washrooms, and near
the USL stage entrance. The room has room for a small prop table, ample
mirror and counter space and includes its own shower stall and sink. Performers
will share general washroom facilities with patrons. There is no monitor
system, but stage noise will be heard in the dressing room. The reverse
is LESS true but should be considered by performers spending any time backstage.
Note that load-in/out involves passing through the lobby into the corridor,
so consideration for the groups before and after you and attention to handling
the 15-minute in/out rule will be crucial.
Storage - NONE. Well, that was simple, eh? You need to be able to fully
strike all items from the theatre after your performance. If this is an
issue for you, please contact me ASAP.
Tech Capacities
Located on the northwest corner of the theatre, the booth provides an adequate
view of the entire playing space. With a simple audio monitor (for stage
noise) in the booth, it is well sound proofed. Windows can not be opened
for ventilation, but a fan is provided. Access is through a second door
from the street - making it wheel chair accessible, though a few steps up
from house level.
Sound: (1) dual-deck tape deck, (2) single disc CD players, an 12 channel
Behringer mixing board allowing for cross fades, live mic hook-up or instrument
amplification. If you'd like to set up additional sound equipment, the
system has some flexibility and you are welcome to do so, but you may be
asked to leave it for the duration of the festival to prevent installation
mistakes. Again, please contact me well before your tech to deal with feasibility
issues. There are 2 speakers dead-hung from the lighting grid in the corners
of the east wall of the stage that allow isolation up (right) and down (left)
through the mixer.
The Fringe provides no projection equipment, but can accommodate items that
you bring in. While EXIT on Taylor does not have any standard or "prime"
locations (i.e. shelves, dead hung platforms, etc.) for this, projection
has been successfully achieved in the past. Clearly, informing us of anything
on this front ASAP allows us to work together to determine some options.
Lights: You will be provided a 18 channel rep plot as follows: a lavender
back wash ([3] separately dimmed Fresnels), [6] area lights (Fresnels focused
DR, DC, DL, UR, UC, UL), [1] red wash (2 Lekos), [1] blue wash (2 Lekos)
and [7] specials (L, C, R, (2) Floor Mounts, Side R, Side L). The focus
and gelling of these instruments will be shown first thing at your tech
rehearsal and will not be available for modification. If you are considering
bringing in ANY additional lighting equipment, what do you think? Yes,
that's right! - please contact me ASAP and we'll discuss feasibility.
The board is a Leprecon 624, and it must be run simply as a MANUAL 2 scene
preset for all shows. Cues may be cross-faded manually or run as internals,
and the board is equipped with both a chase feature and bump buttons. The
house lights are on a separate pair of wall dimmers closer to the soundboard.
