San Francisco FRINGE TECH INFO FOR STANDARD VENUE PERFORMERS 2005
Hello, I'm Amanda (Production Manager of the SF Fringe) and I will be
one of your tour guides during the exciting adventure that is the 14th Annual
SF Fringe Festival.
This section of the website is chock-full of information you'll need to
read through and understand THOROUGHLY so that you'll be ready for the Festival
and will be able to rock others like a hurricane. It is time to focus on
ME... well, not ME so much really, but YOU and ME, and how (by the following
rules of good Fringemanship) we shall become the best of friends.
Here, in 3 simple steps, is an excellent suggestion on how to take the first jump off into this pond of collaboration and good times:
1) Read, Read, READ. When you are done with this, read some more. SERIOUSLY. Get the info contained herein within your brain as completely as possible. This, while certain to make you popular with peoples of every given sex, will also make your complete Fringe experience more pleasing for all involved
2) Pass this info around so you can ensure all members of your company understand the Festival and their crucial role in it! Besides providing a fairly cool contact high, this gets the right people in your land in touch with the appropriate people in our land, long before they even need to shake hands
3) Complete and Return Forms! It is important that all forms are returned to me by the date of July 1st. The sooner I can get the two (What's Up? and When's Up?) forms back, the easier it is for me to avoid any unnecessary panicky, production halting, crisis kinds of events. The forms can be returned to me via mail or fax (all listed at the end of this introduction).
I realize that some of the enclosed info will range from the cryptic to the downright obtuse and may even slide into the depths of out and out goofiness, so call me with any questions. I bet you'll have some. And I have some answers.
That all said...
In this extremely exciting packet you will find the following:
1) What Every Good Fringer Should Know
2) Frequently Queried Queries
For both Fringe-initiated and Festival virgins, this section provides all
of the entirely slick and simple items of Tech-Side etiquette of Fringe-being
that are fit to print as well as the answers to several Frequently Queried
Queries that often pop themselves up. The bits of information contained
within this part of the packet are the parameters into which EVERY standard-venue
show (including - no, ESPECIALLY - yours) MUST fit. If you have any doubts
that your show conforms, there is still time to
A) ask questions, B) adjust,C) freak out. (not necessarily in that order)
3) Venue information Pack (including Space
descriptions, Reference Sheet and Ground Plan)
Included here is general information about the EXIT Theatreplex venues,
specifications for each venue, and a diagram of each space.
4) Hey What's Up? (technically)
Questionnaire
5) Hey When's Up? form
These are of primary importance to ME as they let me know exactly what you
need, would like, and think you can get away with! Get these back to me
ASAP, if not earlier and certainly by Fri. July 1 - particularly if you
think you've got a trick or two up your sleeve. Of course, changes after
July 1st can be accommodated but, as always, the more that I know and the
sooner you let me know it, the more likely it is that things will not end
in strangulation.
