Don't Miss the Bus. I have so enjoyed the bus in the past, it was especially
exciting wondering whether the brakes would hold out, but this show is the
best bring your own venue I have ever been to. The ride was smooth, the
interactive performance was not only funny, but very fun to be a part of,
and once again the view of the city while traveling on the bus was fantastic.
You won't be disappointed to take the ride.

Unless you get off on the idea of riding around SF on a bus where you
have the honor of buying jell-o shots and beer , and there seemed to be
those who did enjoy doing that , THIS IS A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME !!!!!!!!!!
and may cause you to miss shows where performers have spent the time and
energy to actually put a show together , as this "show" (gag)
ran close to 90 minutes. These people should be ashamed of themselves.

Warning!
This show runs almost 90 minutes,
so it might make it very difficult to get to a following show!
I liked the Fellini-esque events happening
outside the bus,
but inside was pretty boring
(maybe it's more interesting if you take advantage of the unlimited drinks
for $10.)
The bride-to-be (we're all supposedly her friends at her bachelorette party)
wasn't very good at her challenges (like doing a rap on what she ate for
breakfast) and what little plot there was concerning her relationships with
others on the bus was not developed.

This was a hostage situation: a captive audience rather than a captivated
one. What was a good concept in theory turned out to be a complete waste
of time. I am embarrassed for Boxcar Theater for their poor execution. The
script and dialogue need an overhaul, the actors need a remedial course
on improv/humor. (And as a side note: we resented the bait-and-switch when
we expected a ride on SF's infamous Mexican Bus and got some lousy charter
instead.) One star is generous. The only way i know it was art was that
it definitely provoked a reaction from the audience: unheeded cries of "Let
me off this friggin bus!!!" Save your energy for the other gems in
the Fringe lineup.

Let me off this bus right now! Actually , one star is generous , my wife's
talking -2. This is easily the most disappointing show we've done at the
fringe. This is kind of a take on the "Tina n Tony's Wedding"
concept done as a bachlorette party on a moving bus. Neat idea that they
haven't done much with and feels to be in very early developmental stage.
This was just BORING and I don't think any number of jello shots would have
helped. The outside vignets is an interesting concept but nothing is tied
together. They need to take this bus back into the garage and put some serious
work into it. At the end of an hour and twenty minutes I was dying to get
off.

the bus - this show was dreadful. could have been fun but, just did not
deliver. some half-hearted "seemed funny when i was drunk in my living
room" stuff. unless the joke was to hold innocents hostage and keep
them from attending legitmate fringe shows. the disorganized overtime run
prevented me from attending a 10:00 show - bad form - disrespects other
acts.

A Moving Performance. Really! Youre on a Bus
This is a different performance piece from the norm. You ride a in a
bachelorette party bus (passengers include the bride to be), shortly before
her wedding. A list of bachelorette party to dos. Jello shots. Tecate
beer, and prophylactics. Passengers are part of the performance, as the
actors speak to them and react to the answers. Ive never gotten off
a bus with an actor to buy a six-pack of beer mid performance before. Tough
to explain, youll just have to do it. One quibble you will feel
more involved in the action if youre in the middle of the bus, as
opposed to the front or back. If the line, "with your teeth" is
used while on the bus, shoot out "a reviewer suggested that" and
demand another jello shot!

Quite a unique show. Mobile theatre + alcohol = much fun! Being transported
around the SF on the Mexican Bus was fun in itself, but there's so much
to check out along the way, from projections to pillowfighting! I felt that
despite several challenges, it was well coordinated- not an easy task. One
of the best parts was that at times it was hard to tell who was part of
the play and who wasn't! One of the other reviewers mentioned a hillarious
inebriated indivdual, as did I, (Bucky?) who shook things up in a good way,
but I don't think we saw the same show! =) Audience participation is key
in this show and if you are encouraged to get into it all along the way.
I'll defintely be back for more, this time with more friends in tow!

An excellent concept that felt underwritten. The bus is great fun and hilarity,
and the performers are believeable and likable, and the events taking place
off the bus are delightful in their provocative surprise. There's too much
filler from the bachelorette party checklist, though; those things are dreadfully
boring even when it's your own friends doing it, much less when a stranger
is halfheartedly making her way through them. If every single item on the
list led to a new revelation about the characters' situation, it would have
been a much tighter show. There were several plotlines and themes that were
introduced and never quite fulfilled--the fact that Mac, who doesn't drink,
chugs a beer at the bequest of the bachelorette is an event that is glossed
over without much notice. Their reconciliation happens way too easily. The
master of ceremonies is a character without much emotional involvement in
the main dramatic struggle. The events outside the bus could have maintained!
their dreamlike quality and still had a bit more continuity with each other.
There was a hint of ominousness about the coming wedding that never quite
paid off; Stephen remained the perfect fiancee to the end without rupture.
I wish I could see this show again after a bit more development--and next
time, I'll be SURE to sign up for the all-you-can-drink pass. Beware jello-shot-envy!

A fabulous time! What could be more fun? I enjoyed myself, saw quality theatre
and got unlimited Tecate and Jell-O shots for $10.00! There was so much
going on, both on the bus and off the bus and it all worked together very
smoothly and effectively. The mix of performance styles and multiple forms
of media made for an exciting, vibrant performance. I'm definitely coming
back and bringing a group of friends.

I was exceptionally surprised by this "moving" performance.
It is conceptually something I had yet to experience and thus highly
recommend this as part of your Fringe itinerary.

You're either on the bus or off the bus. The action's in the aisle and through
the windows. Ride the Streets of San Francisco on Sara's Bachelorette Party
- balloons, streamers, jello shots and Tecate...there's surprise around
every corner and cityscapes to enchant you. Something new, blue, borrowed...for
every bride. |
