Imagination. Acting. Story. And Society. All combine here for an hour of
entertainment with a message. Even those of us who think this is not the
play for us, find out that it really is. It is hard to single out the best
feature, but the transformations of the actors is fascinating. Must be near
the top of the Fringe list.

Superbly crafted and paced, the show sucks the audience into a world our
culture wants to render invisible. Deserves Best of Fringe!

A Boulder "Pick of the Fringe." This is a beautifully and sensitively
told tale using masks, physical theatre and the true stories of the Ruths.
The actors fold and unfold moment to moment as they share the lives of the
ruths of island house.

Brilliant from start to finish. Beautifully acted. Important topic based
on interviews conducted with three women in a nursing home.
The play opens and closes with an angelic acappella folk song sung by
the voices of the three young women. They transition from from past to present
using three expressive masks. The young women become moving sculptures of
their older versions as the actual interviews are played.

Absolutely brillant. A deft exploration of aging, memory, and love. The
masks are stunning, and the actors capture the physicality of the aged with
an accuracy and empathy that brings these characters to life. Ultimately,
I left the theatre overwhelmed with the heartbreaking beauty of it all.

This has got to be among the Best of Fringe if not The Very Best of Fringe.
Brillantly concieved and executed. A moving , touching, heart rendering
show on the lives of three Ruths at Island House retirement home played
out with masks , movement , flashbacks to their youth and voice recordings
of the actual Ruths. I was moved to tears at numerous times during this
performance. I would absolutely pay the extra buck and buy tickets in advance
on line or plan to be there really early. This is as good as anything I've
seen at Fringe in the last several years.

Of the five shows I saw at the Fringe, easily the most well recieved one...it
was leisurely paced(but the show I saw before had naked men in oil..so maybe
I shouldn"t compare)...for very good reason. The show is a stunning
combo of script and sound, mask and heart. The show, based on actual interviews,
traces the lives of three women named Ruth who live in a retirement home.
Old and young, then and now, they all blend together. The cast is flawless
at depicting all sides of the piece, beautiful mask work, youthful portrayals
of the younger Ruths, and the elegant grace these women try to maintain
at times.
At the end of the piece, they breathe together...the lights go out and the
audience sighs and gasps....
what a fantastic creation.... |
