A complete hoot -and what I liked most about it was that the performers
themselves were having a hell of a ball--audience participation was an optional
extra.

This is the best play I saw at the Fringe Festival. Classical theater, pop
music and contemporary politics are all referenced in this fast moving tour-de-farce.
This playwrite really nots how to Take Care of Business.

This clever mash-up of Oedipus and popular culture is very funny and smart!
I especially enjoyed the hilarious 'commercials'. The cast was very good,
especially Elvis and Jesus, although Stevie and Robot Charlie Hodges stood
out as well. Well worth seeing!

There's obviously an audience out there for this , it just doesn't include
me , at least not without more mind altering substances of some kind. This
is cuter in concept than it is in execution. It really is a neat idea ,a
recreation of old radio serials complete with sponsor's ads which were timely
and amusing but the story just dragged along for me without enough real
humor to keep it afloat. But again , maybe if I'd had more beer in me I'd
have enjoyed it as much as a lot of the audience seemed to be doing. Hey
, bartender.

Hunka, Hunka, Hunka Burning Fun. Elvis in Space.
If you enjoy campy scripts, and pre-bloat white jumpsuit Elvis Presley,
fry yourself up a peanut butter and banana sandwich, unbutton another button
on your shirt, and go see the Thrilling Adventures of Elvis in Space
 2. This is a continuation of the earlier show performed at the
Fringe but you dont need to have seen that to enjoy Elvis in
Space. Comedy, camp, and Robot Charlie Hodge (yum). What more could
you ask for? Those of you who saw the Marsh Theatres A Karen
Carpenter Christmas will recognize Elvis Rex (as described in the
program). Steffanos X works several Elvis numbers in the production.
The comedy is played out in the style of radio serials from the 30s,
complete with the most interesting sponsors.
Those expecting high comedy, possessing suspicious minds, arent
fun of hound dogs, and dislike gold jewelry, would feel caught in a trap
attending Elvis in Space and should probably take a pass on
this performance. Its light, it has some Tourette syndrome with a
bit of Oedipus thrown in for good measure.
The audience practically filled the room and had a TCB delicious time.
Thank you. Thank you very much.

I enjoyed the very campy atmosphere of the show. The commercials were wonderful.
The sound effects were great. The show was way over the top, but since that
was what I was expecting I really enjoyed it. I did have a hard time understanding
the narrator from time to time. The Robot Charlie Hodge was very attractive
and equally funny. Elvis did a great impersonation. Stevie was Super Sweet!

The format is terrific: a radio play with commercials. It comes alive by
casting an ironical twist on the Oedipus myth and Elvis the icon, with a
cast up to the task. Playwrite Jorgenson, cast as one of Elvis's sidekicks,
examplifies the duality of the material-mythological comedy. Excellent entertainment,
great writing, excellent cast, good music-and it moves along at a dizzy
clip. Everyone will find something to like in this one.

Who knew Greek tragedy could be so much fun! Jeremy Jorgensen's new twist
on the Oedipus tale will have you rolling in the aisles. The actor playing
Elvis certainly had the chops to carry off the King's vocal stylings, and
Jorgensen's turn as his Super Sweet sidekick Stevie is worth the price of
admission alone.

I saw part one of this play at last year's Fringe Festival and really enjoyed
it, and can honestly say I had an even better time watching this peformance.
All of the actors did an amazing job, and the laughs were coming at a frenetic
pace. I would definitely recommend this play to anyone looking for a silly
yet provocative good time.

Spoofy! Jokes arrive from all directions --- pure and impure, musical and
political --- when a homesick Elvis disrupts an alternative universe. Even
the sound of his soulful voice (imitated well in this show) can cause alien
heads to explode. With two sidekicks, a sexy robot and a goofy adolescent,
he flees the shadow of Richard Nixon and quests for his mama. This Fringy
show reflects the gaudy spectacle of our own world's hero-celebrities: a
high-energy, half-deserved tragedy, funny to hear about and seen through
someone else's media. After finding love where Oedipus and even King Arthur
found it, already in the family album, Elvis sings us another song.

Super sweet! This is a very fun show. Jeremy Jorgenson does it again. It's
a terrific twist on the Oedipal myth, and still manages to be totally funny,
at the same time. This second installment is a lot funnier than the first,
with superb direction by Margery Fairchild, also a dancer/choreographer,
who has brought her spatial awareness to this show. The casting is excellent
- I loved all performances. I'd like to write that Elvis stole the show,
but I'd be lying, people, lying!! All characters are played with such high
degrees of emotion & understanding. And the actors seem like they have
great fun with this play.
Yes, I will see this play again. |
