Bad acting, bad script. Sometimes laughably bad

I was torn in giving this show 3 or 4 stars. I thought the script was excellent and would give it 5 stars on that alone. The cast was good looking and very talented, most of them. The one thing that made me think of giving the show 3 stars was Paul. I think the actor/writer/director spread himself too thin. He brought the show down for me. Maybe I saw just an off night by this actor. But the show gets a 4 because of the great work of the rest of the cast. Paul really knew how to surround himself with talent to help carry this show. Congrats to the rest of you for taking his great words and poor acting and combining them into a very enjoyable show.

Let's take this one by one shall we? SUZ: Beautiful, sad, great facial expression, really taught us a lot about the main charater and we could easily tell she "loved" him. STEVE: pulled off the young niave thing well, did a great job of showing us that he was feeling the alcohol and loved his flirtation with Tina. TINA: very sexy, a great talent, heartbreaking in one scene, flirty and lively in another and showed us true fear towards the end. DEREK: intense, but balanced it well with the pathetic nature of his character, made me jump several times. I am going to split the main guy into three parts being he was the writer. director, and star. PAUL: fragile asshole if there is such a thing. He showed us a soft sad side to the drunk we see every night at the bar. DIRECTOR: I was worried with four people sitting around talking I was going to get bored. But the direction and the acting combined to keep me on the edge of my seat. WRITER: this was without a doubt the best written sho!
w I have ever seen. Honesty is rare in theatre, we often see people attempt it and fail, the situations are just a little too out there to be real. But not in the case of this show, each actor WAS their character, and judging from watching them interact with each other after the show it wasn't type casting either! Over all just plain amazing and should not be missed. Well done and drinks are on me!

This is a nice change of pace from what is a more usual than normal solo performance driven festival. I stayed engaged with the show from the beginning and found it to be entertaining. Throw in the ability to have a serious drink and a real meal at the same time and this makes for a perfect Fri or Sat evening out. We're talking dinner theater here. Good deal

I really enjoyed this show. The concept was great: strangers sitting around at a bar talking, each one forced to face their respective truths. The story arc was really clear and well-constructed and each character was pretty nicely defined. I wasn't that impressed with the acting, but it didn't really seem to matter! Great job, guys.

Great job by all. Very convincing crazy guy "Derek" played by Rich. Absolutely loved facial expressions by "Steven" played by Justin---gave an impression of a sweet young man, "Paul" played by Jason very powerful with his words. The gals were very good as well. Overall---very tight performance. Right on cue, no lag time, kept me engrossed at all times. Good balance of humour and drama. Hope they will be invited back to Fringe Festival again.

I am in love with this show. It is all I could think about. The cast are all fabulous actors with a charismatic look and magnetic energy. I thought the story and message was real life under a microscope. The writer, whom I was lucky enough to meet at the opening night party of Fringe, is a well spoken, humorous, intelligent man (not to mention very attractive) who has a great career in writing and directing. I also feel that one stand out performer in this spellbinding cast was the gal who played Tina. I thought she was a professional the group may have hired until the writer told me she was a local talent. This is a must see show at Fringe Fest this year.

It felt like someone had taken my friends and thrown them onstage to be dissected. In a good way. I think everyone needs to be sat down with someone who is going to honestly tell them what they see without a sugar coating. It seemed to me that the people who went away unhappy were the ones who didn't like what it made them see in themselves. A Solid 4

I need to disagree with Sara entirely. I saw the show late Saturday night and this was easily one of the best of Fringe this year. Each of the actors were right on the ball with their characters. I thought the script was wonderful and J. had a great grasp of philosophy and had a clear message of how he feels the world works. Each of the secondary actors had to hold their own against the main character and bring about a well rounded true to life person. They did amazing and I wanted to get to know each of the characters even better if given the chance. All in all a must see!

I very well done show. Writing was strong, the story was easy to follow, all of the actors were amazing, and the production was smooth. A little too much cursing for me, but the audience along side me seemed to be okay with it.

This was a terrific show that left me thinking all night after I saw it Saturday. The character of Paul was a sad fragile character veiled by his asshole exterior. The game he played throughout was like watching a man's suicide letter. Each outlining character was real and true and not only gave Paul a board to throw his philosophies at but also had rich interesting stories of their own. This show is about change and the ability to do it before it is too late. I hope others in the audience realize that they too could change something, their "punch-line" so to speak. I know I walked away thinking I need to make a few changes myself and I am in my 50s. It is never too late.

Great show! See it if you get the chance. Beyond a great story, it has great acting and an ending that will leave you thinking.

This has to be one of the most poignant, thought provoking, laugh out loud shows I have ever read and seen. This is definantly the show to see. Take the time to see it. I gaurantee you won't regret it.

I saw this on Friday, Sept 7. I like the play. When I went in, I feared it would be too centered around Paul, but actually the characters work well against each other (though of course, Paul IS the lead character). There is a lot of witty dialogue. Beyond that, the characters also have to examine each other and themselves. Meanwhile, everybody (audience included) is trying to figure out Paul and the game he is playing. However, the reason why I give this play only 3 stars is the acting. It is watchable acting, but so much of the punch that the dialogue could have had was dampened by the lack of focus and specificity on the part of the actors. During the monologues, it sounded like the actor was thinking of the entire monologue the whole time, rather than creating each word on the spur of the moment. To sum it up, the actors were not quite in the moment. Maybe they were trying to act drunk, but even one of the characters who was not supposed to be drunk had this problem. !
And as I was reminded by some real-life drunks I ran across on the way home, drunks are even more in the moment than most people. In short, 4 star script, 2 star acting. I do not regret seeing this show. Whether you like it depends on your tastes.

1st play I saw at this years festival so I can't give it too many stars... The characters were real, the dialouge was thoughtful with just a little darkly silly humor. A conversation between new friends that plays with your emotions and makes you think. Worth seeing!
