1 Quandary Place Class Notes |
Play: Class Notes If you every have gone to a prestigious school (or even a community college with a flyer on your student body) and read the over the top accomplishments and thought: What a pompous bunch of doofuses! Someone should take them down! This show is for you. Kurt Bodden though does it in a way where it is actually very sweet and self effacing. Much more of a poke with stick with a feather on it to tickle you at the same time. The show breaks down the Harvard Class Alumi notes terms of a human's life after you leave a university (or at least what it is supposed to be in societal terms): Marriage notes, baby notes. And the material itself is a big lush playground for Bodden. After culminating a few years of these Class Notes (from the fast Q&A He did...how wonderfully collegiate and Carol Burnett of him) he could have just stood there and read the notes and not been as hilarious as he was. But you end up being fascinated by Bodden and his take on his own life (A divorce, passing out at a Harvard Doctor filled wedding. And the funniest rant on Hummers that could possibly be out there in the free world) Also the idea that his lean physical appearance, malleable face, and him being able to riff off the cuff along with mixing his pre-established material (his mind is quite loose that way which makes you want to see what other improvised stuff is going to come out) expresses what everyone is thinking in the audience "You have to be KIDDING someone wrote that about themselves!" The house was filled with Harvard graduates this night. (All of whom I asked to do my taxes and give me nutrition advise)and the tickled recognition is wonderful (and the ladies in the front row were proposed to by Bodden on bended knee..egged on by his class notes). And I looked at my theater friends in the house. All of whom either dropped out of high school...or just squeaked into a university...and they were laughing just as hard. Especially when Mr. Bodden sent this out to the world "When I tell Harvard alumni what I do, they give me an inflection like 'oh...would you like a sandwich?' I won't give away the ending? But it is perfect. The class notes everyone wants. Brilliant. This show is just plain smart and funny. Sort of what you expect. From someone who attended Harvard. Play: Class Notes | |
