In this best of all possible countries, in this best of all possible worlds, lived a young man called Candide who was sure everything that happened was for the best. Sadly for our hero, the rest of the world had a slightly different outlook.

Follow our young Optimist as he wanders from a state that seems a lot like California, to a war zone that seems a bit like Iraq, to a strange place called El Dorado, only its a bit more chilly than you would think and part of it is floating away!

This fast-paced, scatological, ensemble-based modernization proves
that Voltaire's sarcastic, bitterly dark, hysterically funny novella is more than timeless; it is, in fact, about our very here and now!

Brian Katz (Adapt. and Direction) is the Artistic Director and co-founder of the Custom Made Theatre Company. For Custom Made he has directed over twenty productions indlucing "Slavs!", "Doctor Faustus Lights the Lights", "Animal Farm", "Bobby Gould in Hell", "Temptation", and "The Heidi Chronicles". Brian has worked at The Goodman Theatre, Berkeley Rep, CenterREP and Cal Shakes in various capacities. His production of "Bye-bye, bin Laden!" was named a top premiere of 2004 by the San Francisco Bay Guardian, and his "Assassins" was awarded a top 10 Best Musical of 2007 by Talkin' Broadway.
