This was the best of the 4 shows I made it to this season. No sense saying
too much more, since it's not showing again.

i laughed, i snickered, i cried, i wanted to get up and boogie. i was touched
by its poignant melodies and loving view into some slices of the humanity
pie - from lighthearted and silly to ouch/sigh.

"Lost and Found" could have been one of the most engaging, exciting,
and inventive pieces of performance I have seen in a long while. It perfectly
combines modern/exploratory/conceptual theater with organ, fully fleshed
out characters and stories. It proves that in order to think outside the
box, sometimes you just have to look at your feet. The show's poignancy
brought me to tears (and also some great laughter). Along with the deep
thoughts it inspired, "Lost and Found" took me on a complete journey
of emotions. Shows like this continually inspire me and remind us all why
we make art.

Loved Peter Griggs' dynamic, venue-filling presence, the sublimely understated,
yet powerful performance of Rowena Richie, and, of course, the music! Genius.

The show is great - scraps of found paper turned into absolute gems of musical
theater. I especially loved US Breasts, you just can't go wrong with a number
like that.

Not only do we have to worry about identity theft, we now have to be careful
with all those lists and other scraps of paper we have. They could end up
in a fringe show, set to song and dance! Loved the enthusiasm of the performers.
Entertaining.

I loved this show! So wild, wacky, yet deep and profound. Humanity at it's
best, put to song and dance, with such an amazingly talented cast. I laughed,
I cried, I was moved. Go see it!!!

Really Funny Stuff!!! I really enjoyed OPM's fast-paced show. From the opening
skit all thee way through to Fuck Olympics I laughed my ass off. The running
gag tied it all together. Don't miss this one it's a hoot!

I loved this show, it left me crying. Lost objects leave so much to the
imagination, there is a whole story behind them that you may never know.
How many times have we walked the streets of SF and seen lost items lying
at your feet. Did someone accidentally drop this? Did they intentionally
throw it away? This diverse group really pulled it off, I am very proud
of them.

notes

Moving, funny, creative exploration of found notes on the streets of the
Mission. The two-woman team who brought this to life are very talented.
Several players stood out as well, esp. Rozelle Piledo, who's a joy to watch.
Get advance tix for this one.

What comes from the heart, goes to the heart. And I believe that a lot
of love went into this play, from the concept to the direction and staging
to the commitment of the ensemble, their joy in performing it. I enjoyed
it, and by the end, I was moved by this valentine to the Mission, to a city,
to life.

It's hard to see how you can turn a shopping list for turnips and taro into
a window into existential questions, but Lost and Found pulls off that feat
and many others in this creative, provocative show.
Full disclosure--I am married to Rowena Richie, who along with Susie
Hara directed the 8-person show based on found scraps of paper in the Mission
District of San Francisco. Even if I weren't biased, though, I'm certain
I would be tickled by a number of the skits, like one prompted by a therapist's
business card and another by a teenager's note seeking a classmate's photo.
Other scenes are moving, like one in which "Gram" reads a letter
to her grand-daughter that eloquently gives voice to the way an earlier
generation of women had few opportunities to speak publicly.
And the original music and singing is by turns entrancing, quirky and
stirring.
Not all the skits on the opening night (Friday) flowed to perfection.
And there are aspects of the original, June, '07 performance of Lost and
Found that I miss.
But the current actors preserve the cast's remarkably diversity in terms
of age and ethnicity. And partly because of that diversity, this is theater
that manages to make the Mission District's multifariousness come alive.
At the same time that it tells the "little stories" of the
neighborhood, though, it speaks to larger, universal themes of loss and
connection and renewal.
Don't be surprised if the turnips and taro give you a figurative lump
in the throat.

I was pretty excited for this performance based on the synopsis...found
words from the Mission...sounds great in theory but my major complaint was
that the found words were just not that interesting or unique. That and
the whole interpretive dance thing in conjunction with the singing and narrative
was just a bit too scattered for my tastes. I would have liked to focus
more intensely on just a few really great found pieces and explored each
on a deeper
level than experiecing so many too fast. |
