Joanne Joseph, NYC actor/poet returns to the San Francisco Fringe Festival this year with her one-person performance Shakerpeare's Mums following its debut in August 1998 at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. Ms. Joseph goes in search of mothers in the plays, finding mostly those with evil and frightening agendas, and some few who are benevolent, or mostly so (Nurse in Romeo and Juliet, Countess in All's Well that Ends Well), or heroic(Cleopatra, a mother as well as a great leader and great lover) lustful (Gertrude), playful (Mistress Page in the Merry Wives of Windsor), tragic (Constance in King John), fierce (Volumnia in Coriolanus, and deluded Lady M in The Scottish Play) and more.
