- "Etta still cant cook. I used to go over to
her place tborrow some sugar or an egg or two, Id walk into
her kitchen and there shed bestandin at the stove starin
off into the distance like she was lookin at somethin really
far away, tryin to see just exactly what it was. Meantime, the potato
waters boilin over, and the beets or lima beans or whatever
she was cookinup was moren likely permanently stuck to the
bottom of the pan. When suppertime came, shed serve up what she had
in whatever state it was in.
Funny thing is, once I was gone, she cooked for Haroldmy husband.
