This is a play about the life of hobo Bertha Thompson, who rode the trains across America in the 1930s. She went on the road at 16 seeking a life of adventure. During her travels she becomes an activist for poor people, a prostitute and a thief.
This is a really interesting story. It presents a very complete picture of Bertha - showing both her accomplishments and setbacks. I thought Christina Augello was too tame in the role of Bertha. I think a little more energy at times would have made this show more interesting. However, the live music provided by Jack Walroth adds some energy to this show, which is important because music is something that provides joy into the lives of the poor.
