Come Fly With Me Nude
by Diane Karagienakos and Todd Pickering

Review by Chloe Veltman in SF Bay Guardian December 8, 2004

Come Fly with Me Nude Exit Theatre, 156 Eddy; 956-1737, www.dombella.com. $15-20. Fri-Sat and Dec 15-16, 8pm (also Sat/11, 2pm). Through Dec 18. Dom Casual and Bella Hagen (a.k.a. San Francisco performers Todd Pickering and Diane Karagienakos) are mutual muses. Constantly inspiring each other to reach increasingly dizzy heights of artistic prowess, they bestow their eclectic concoction of song, dance, and poetry on adoring masses all along the Western seaboard, before hitting the big time back East in the Ice Capades. Whether performing a one-minute Macbeth involving two witches and a sock puppet at the Shakespeare Competition in Ashland, Ore., or setting some faux-beat poetry to Martha Graham-esque moves at San Francisco's Café Royale, Pickering and Karagienakos give us unprecedented insight into the ravings of two particularly endearing fringe-theater minds. So endearing, in fact, is the duo, that it's even possible to forgive the fact that the second half of the show feels unbearably long. Part autobiography, part meta-theater, and part cartoon cabaret, Come Fly with Me Nude is a loosely structured love song to bedroom rock stars and bathroom Broadway divas everywhere. (Veltman)
