Mark Jackson's solo comedy based on
Shakespeare's “Hamlet.”
--Chronicle
I know what you're thinking -- not another version of
"Hamlet," but this time it's different. "I Am Hamlet,"
Art Street Theatre's one-man show, written and
performed by Mark Jackson, takes Shakespeare's
melancholy Dane and lets him tell his own story.
Hamlet's ditched the rest of the cast so he can give
the audience the intimate scoop on the Bard's other
characters, including Uncle Claudius (he's in
desperate need of a breath mint), Horatio ("a bit
boring") and his own mother, Gertrude (she likes to
go sans underwear). Jackson's Hamlet talks the
audience through one of history's most notable
plays and acts out all the drama -- the murder of his
father, the suicide of his lover and the betrayal of his
uncle -- while giving juicy details and insight
Shakespearean scholars spend years speculating
about. Directed by Kevin Clarke, this Hamlet is one
of a kind. -- Anna Mantzaris
