The Last of the Red Hot Dadas
EXIT Theatre, San Francisco
After a successful North American tour, the Baroness of Dada descends on the
Fringe with a red hot, fuck-the-man performance. And fucking the man....or
the men seems to be Baroness Elsa's primary occupation; the Baroness's
'artistic' affiliations read like a who's who of the Dada art world.
Christina Augello passionately brings the historical figure to life and
manages to comment on American greed, the myth of female sexual innocence,
and the Baroness' painful childhood while breathing life into a host of
puppets and performing a found poetry-cum-urination piece that would make
any true-blue Dadaist proud. Sure, we know that women's lib happens in more
places than between a woman's legs, but the celebration of sexual freedom
and frank discussion male-female relations is as timely today as it was
during the Baroness' lifetime.
